Abstract:

Subject of study. Multilayer YAG/YSZ ceramics doped with rare earth ions. Aim of study. Production of luminescent multilayer ceramics of the composition YAG:CeO2/YSZ:Eu2O3 with an increased shape factor using spark plasma sintering technique and study of its optical-luminescent characteristics complex with potential for use as a radiation converter. Method. The functionally
graded ceramic samples under study were obtained by spark plasma sintering technique. The assessment of the morphology and spectral-luminescent properties of the materials was carried out using electron microscopy, photo- and cathodoluminescence spectrometry. Main results. The possibility of producing luminescent multilayer ceramics of the YAG:CeO2/YSZ:Eu2O3 composition using spark plasma sintering technique with an increased shape factor has been demonstrated. The dynamics of relative shrinkage has been studied. It has been shown that the Spark Plasma Sintering technique parameters (temperature 1450 оC, pre-pressure 80 MPa, isothermal exposure duration 30 min) are sufficient to obtain relatively dense multilayer ceramics of the selected composition. The studies of the spectral characteristics of YAG/YSZ functionally graded ceramics doped with europium and cerium oxides made it possible to establish the main types of luminescence centers and determine the mutual influence of different layers on the luminescent properties. The integral cathode and photoluminescence spectra are consistent with existing ideas about luminescence centers in YAG and YSZ materials, which confirms the success of the functionally graded ceramics sintering. Practical significance. The results of complex studies of YSZ/YAG multilayer ceramics doped with rare earth ions, obtained in the present work can be used as converters of high-power laser radiation.
